Isometric 15/12

Isometric 15/12 2022

This piece is an expansive interpretation of a minbar pattern, originally from Cairo and now housed in the collection of The Louvre.

The combination of fifteenfold symmetry with twelvefold symmetry is very rare within this tradition, but is made possible by grounding the pattern in a grid structure composed of equilateral triangles (known as an isometric grid).

The trifold nature of the grid can be subdivided by four to form a twelvefold star, and by five to form the fifteenfold.
