Qalawun 2023
This composition celebrates a lesser-known ceiling design from the Qalawun Mausoleum complex in Cairo, Egypt. It features multiple repeats of a tenfold star pattern from the girih tiling system, cropped and adapted for the mausoleum ceiling in a distinctive and original manner.
The colour scheme for this iteration evokes the original architectural inspiration.
Original Work
- Qalawun was rendered with handmade watercolour paints by Beam Paints on handmade Wasli paper by Hussein Papers, India. The work measures 12" × 13" (30.48 cm × 33.02 cm), is custom framed under UV preservation glass, and available for acquisition at $2,650.
