The Shield and The Drum 2023

This analysis is based on a pattern from the central area of the fountain floor at Bayt Al Kritliyyah in Cairo.

Building upon a geometric methodology pioneered by Alan Adams, the work develops his approach for these patterns, while notably incorporating the widths of the woven bands directly into the construction mathematics.

Original Work

  • The Shield and The Drum was rendered with handmade watercolour paints on animal-free Fabriano archival paper. The work measures 10" × 10" (25.40 cm × 25.40 cm), and is currently held in a private collection.
